Our guest speaker was COL William (Bill) Koehler, U.S. Army(Ret): 2nd Vice President of the MOAA State Council. COL Koehler discussed the State Council’s process in supporting state chapters. He said one of the major things that the State Council does is to visit each Chapter in the state to recognize and appreciate what they do. He recognized the Star Fort Chapter as being one of the best in the state. He recognized members in attendance who are or have served on the BOD, been in the chapter 10 years or longer and MOAA Life Members. He discussed the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day. He showed a one-minute film of an older veteran greeting a returning younger veteran. COL Koehler pointed out that what we show as members of MOAA is patriotism. We are an extended family of military veterans with shared values, principles, experiences and even a special vocabulary. He showed a two minute and forty second video of day-to-day combat in the Vietnam War. Our Chapter President presented him with a Star Fort Chapter Coin as a thank you for his presentation.
