MOAA Membership

Who Can Join?

All active duty, retired, National Guard, Reserve, former commissioned officers, and warrant officers of the uniformed services - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Public Health Service, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are eligible for membership.
MOAA counts among its members 6 out of 10 retired officers; 59,000 active duty officers; and more than 58,000 active or retired Guard and Reserve officers.

Membership is also available for surviving spouses of deceased officers.

Combat experience is not an eligibility requirement.

Members of the MOAA do not have to be officers in an active military organization such as the Marines, Navy Air Force or Army. Officers in the National Guard and Reserve are also eligible to become members of the organization. Cadets can join, too. Our chapters are also signing up ROTC cadets and midshipmen for MOAA. Junior and Senior ROTC cadets/midshipmen are eligible to be MOAA members. They will receive an electronic membership.

How Do I Join?

Membership occurs at only two places - National and Local level. There is no state level membership as such.
The South Carolina State Council of Chapters is drawn from members of local chapters and has only a very small number of members taken from the chapter rosters on its Board of Directors.
In South Carolina all chapters follow the practice of encouraging membership in MOAA National in addition to joining a local chapter.
