Chapter President, Terry Greenfield, presented Maj Gen Mike Akey with a Star Fort MOAA Chapter polo shirt.

Outgoing President, SC MOAA Council of Chapters Maj Gen Mike Akey, USAF (ret), gave a slide presentation on the current and future endeavors of National MOAA and SC MOAA. He spoke of the growth of National MOAA in it s membership and chapters; the importance of the Surviving Spouse Groups.  He talked about the current state of SC Chapters. He discussed the loss of the Keowee Chapter and he noted that lack of member participation was reason for its demise. He was excited that a Greenville /Spartanburg Chapter may be starting up again. He believes the key to a strong Chapter is leadership, activities, and membership participation. He talked about  the new Board of Directors for the Council and praised his replacement, Linda Caldwell, a former Army Nurse, and Vietnam veteran. He ended discussing getting 5 of 6 bills passed last year in SC. One of the best was finally getting military retirement tax exempt, turning SC into a veteran green state for MOAA!
