OUR MISSIONS AND ACTIVITIES

We strive to keep our members informed about national and local South Carolina legislative policies that affect their daily lives AND inform them about National Security issues.  We invite speakers to our meetings who contribute to that effort, and we also often have as speakers prominent members of the community, especially those who are influential in the civic life of Anderson, Clemson, Fairplay,  Keowee, Newry, Pelzer/West Pelzer, Piedmont, Seneca, Townville, Westminster, Walhalla/West Union and influential in South Carolina state issues affecting military people, especially the retired.

We are an active member of the MOAA South Carolina Council of Chapters. The Council supports the activities of the 12 MOAA Chapters in SC. Two current members of the Chapter have served as Council President. The Piedmont Chapter supports seven (7) high school Junior ROTC units and two (2) university ROTC units within its membership area.  Each year the Chapter awards the MOAA Medal and Certificate to deserving cadets during their School's annual award ceremonies. Each year it helps sponsor the annual South Carolina Upstate  JROTC Drill Meet held at locations in Anderson.

The Chapter is a member of the Anderson County Veterans Association (ACVA) which sponsors an annual Memorial Day Program at the Anderson County Veterans' Monument, and our Chapter also supports the City of Anderson Veterans' Day Parade.

Our Piedmont Chapter, along with the ACVA, was a major player in the original idea, design, and financing plans for the 10 year, $100,000 project to build the Carillon Tower/Monument. The Carillon Tower is centrally located on the grounds of the M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans' Cemetery in Anderson. The Carillon plays Westminster Chimes and bugle calls as appropriate in honor and memory of the South Carolina veterans and spouses interred there.

Most recently we provided monetary support to the Clemson University Military and Veteran Engagement Program.  This program is aimed  at Clemson University graduate students who may need financial assistance. This program is administered by the University.
