Colonel Carl William Horn is a retired Army Infantry officer who served for over 32 years.  He is a 1976 graduate of the United States Military Academy (USMA) and was assigned to numerous senior operational command and staff positions.  These include the 9th Infantry Division (ID), Ft. Lewis, WA; 8th ID, Lee Barracks, Wiesbaden, Germany; and 25th ID(L), Schofield Barracks, HI.  He was also an Assistant Professor in the then Department of Geography and Computer Science at USMA subsequent to earning his master's degree at the University of North Carolina.  After Battalion Command for the 2nd Battalion, 39th Infantry Regiment at Ft. Jackson, SC, he became the Training Center's Inspector General.  He was next appointed as the State Inspector General for Maryland and, then, Deputy IG for the National Guard Bureau.  His last duty station was with the 1st Army as the Senior Army Advisor for The Adjutant General of Maryland where he retired in 2008.  His post-Army occupation was as Vice President for Student Affairs at Newberry College, SC.

Carl currently serves as President, Columbia Chapter of MOAA; 1st VP, MOAA SC State Council; member, Ft. Jackson Retiree Council; board member, Celebrate Freedom Foundation and Newberry County Water and Sewer Authority; and various positions in the Lake Murray Seniors Bass Club. He continues to serve on Senator Tim Scott’s Academy Screening Committee. His other interests include fishing, gardening, apiculture, church choir, and “all” home projects.

Carl has been happily married to his wife, Nell, for 45 years, and, together, have three wonderful, married sons…Carl II (Senior Executive Service); Austin (LtCol, AF); and David (MAJ, Army)…and  three super daughters-in-law with seven awesome grandchildren.
