It has been 245 years since the U.S. flag was adopted in the resolution of the Second Continental Congress. Flag Day is observed  to honor and commemorate the adoption of the American flag which occurred on this day in 1777 by the Second Continental Congress. One year earlier the United States declared Independence by signing the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
