The Star Fort Chapter started last spring on a project to have banners for veterans placed on light poles in downtown Greenwood for Veterans Day. A committee was formed to determine the size of the banner, the cost of each banner and work with the city to have them placed on the light poles in November. By the summer and early fall, the committee had an application that a veteran or family members could honor their veteran with a banner. Each banner had a picture in uniform of the veteran with their name, service symbol and dates of service or conflict during which they served. Each banner also has the MOAA symbol. There was a total of 30 banners displayed downtown. On November 11 Chapter President Terry Greenfield was on a local morning TV show to recognize this project. That afternoon there was a reception to honor these veterans and the State MOAA President, Linda Caldwell, was the guest speaker. After the reception friends and family could walk through downtown to see their veteran’s banner and the others that were posted on the lamp post. The chapter plans to continue this as an annual event.
